OLAYINKA JOSEPH
Author | Publisher | Web Designer
I am Olayinka Joseph—a writer, author, publisher, and web designer. I have written over 80 books and a couple of web site over 15 years ago, but I did not start out knowing how to write, publish, or build things online. My journey began with an unfinished manuscript and, later, a finished book I struggled to find a publisher for in 2017. I eventually taught myself self-publishing, printing, digital publishing, and web design by figuring things out firsthand. Those experiences led to Creativity Publications, where I now use what I have learned through years of writing, publishing, technology, and practical experience to help other authors and creators bring their ideas to life.
I have always been interested in what happens when an idea moves from someone's head and becomes something other people can actually use. That interest has taken me through writing, publishing, website design, technology, teaching, ministry, and digital content. Creativity Publications grew out of that journey.
My Journey
I Learned Publishing by Getting My Hands Dirty
I love reading books. I also love listening to teachings, especially teachings that challenge the way I think, deepen my understanding, and give me a different perspective on life. Over the years, books and teachings have played a significant role in shaping my thoughts, my worldview, my faith, and the way I approach problems. Perhaps that is one reason writing eventually became such an important part of my life.
But I was not born a writer. In fact, my journey into writing was anything but straightforward. I still have the manuscript of the first book I ever attempted to write, and I have never finished it. That may sound strange coming from someone who has now written more than 84 books, some of which you can find on Amazon and other digital platforms, as well as on my personal website, [OlayinkaJoseph.com].
But that unfinished manuscript is actually an important part of my story. It reminds me that people often see the finished books without seeing the unfinished ones that came before them. My first attempt did not become a completed book. But I did not stop there. More manuscripts followed.
My publishing journey started because I could not find a publisher
Then came the point where I had to figure out something else: How do I actually get a book published? In 2017, I had a finished manuscript that I wanted to publish. I began looking for publishers who would accept the book. But I could not find a publisher willing to take it on in the way I wanted. At that point, I had a choice. I could keep waiting for someone to give me an opportunity, or I could find out whether I could learn to do it myself. I chose the second option.
That research opened up an entirely new world to me. I was no longer simply writing a book. I was learning what it meant to bring a book into the world.
That experience became the beginning of my journey into printing and publishing. It eventually contributed to the birth and development of Creativity Publications. And the interesting thing is that what started as a personal problem eventually became something I could use to help other people. I discovered that I was not the only person who had an idea, written a manuscript, and then become confused about what to do next.
Web Design Became Part of the Journey
My journey into web designing was also connected to publishing. It did not begin with me deciding one day that I wanted to become a web designer. It started with a much simpler question: How can I get my books in front of readers online? When I began looking for ways to sell and distribute my books digitally, I paid an agency to help publish one of my books across platforms including Amazon, Kobo and Apple Books.
The experience taught me lessons I have never forgotten. When the work was completed, I looked at the book cover they had produced for me and I did not like it.
That experience made me realize something: Having a book published is not the same thing as having your book properly presented.
Then I encountered an even bigger problem. I was told that I did not have direct control over my books on the digital platforms because the agency was managing the accounts and distribution. And, unfortunately, I never received the royalties I was expecting from that arrangement.
With my educational background in Computer Science (B.Sc), I began to design online platform to sell my books directly.
From One Author's Problem to Creativity Publications
Creativity Publications did not begin as an abstract business idea written down in a business plan. It grew out of problems I personally encountered. First, I was a writer who needed to get a book published. Then I became an author trying to understand self-publishing. Then I became someone trying to understand printing and digital distribution. Then I discovered a better way to present, distribute, and sell what I was creating. Each stage exposed me to another problem. And each problem pushed me to learn. Eventually, I realized that the things I was learning could help other people avoid some of the mistakes and frustrations I had experienced. That is part of the story behind Creativity Publications.
Today, our work extends beyond simply helping someone put a book into print. We are interested in the entire journey around an idea — from writing and publishing to presentation, websites, digital content, and the tools people need to build something useful around their work.
That is why you will find publishing resources, web design information, practical guides, tools, and educational content here. My goal with every article is to give you everything you need to know, so that you can turn around and take action, and see results.
